Graue Literatur/ Bericht Direkte und indirekte Umwelteffekte von intelligenten, vernetzten urbanen Infrastrukturen. Abschlussbericht.(2022) Umweltbundesamt -UBA-, Dessau-RoßlauLocal authorities are increasingly developing "smart" concepts and solutions aimed at protecting the climate, the environment and resources. Often a vision of a smart city is drawn as the key to more sustainable cities. Their contribution to urban environmental protection has, however, not yet been fully investigated in practice. Since municipalities play a central role in achieving local and global environmental, climate and sustainability goals, environmental aspects should also be more strongly integrated into smart city approaches in the future. The aim of the three-year project (October 2017 - September 2020) was to investigate what contribution "smart applications" make to existing environmental and sustainability strategies and which environmental impacts of smart city technologies and applications can already be identified in German municipalities. In order to be able to make more detailed statements on this, the project examined four municipalities, whose specific approaches are detailed in the form of case studies. Another focus of the project was the topic of international norms and standardization as well as the legal framework in the field of Smart Cities. The project examined the extent to which international standardization has a positive or negative impact on the implementation of sustainable and environmentally effective Smart City approaches.
