Abstract

Beweglich bleiben, das wollen wir alle. Aber worum geht es eigentlich? Mobilität als Voraussetzung, am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilzunehmen, ist ein Grundbedürfnis. Wir müssen uns jedoch davor hüten, Mobilität mit zurückgelegten Kilometern zu verwechseln. Nur wenn wir Mobilität und Verkehr begrifflich trennen, verstehen wir die dahinter liegenden Phänomene. Hohe Mobilität - beweglich bleiben - bedeutet hohe Chancen und Wahlmöglichkeiten bei geringem Verkehrsaufwand an Energie, Umweltbelastung, Zeit, Kosten, Gefährdung, Stress. Erreichbarkeit und Nähe in dichten, gemischt genutzten Stadtquartieren bieten hohe Mobilität mit wenig Verkehr, zu Fuß und mit dem Fahrrad, ohne Abhängigkeit vom Auto.The price of oil has reached its peak. The rapid growth in demand for oil by fast-developing nations faces stagnation in oil supplies. In addition to rising oil prices, user charges for all vehicles on any road and the trade in emission rights will greatly increase mobility costs, thus ending the era of low-cost mobility. The transport sector has the choice of several options with regard to handling the change-over from oil usage to regenerative energy by taking into account such factors as efficiency, economizing, adapting individual life styles and behaviour to new situations, spatial structure and urban development, traffic planning and transport- related technology, energy supply industries and vehicle technology. The path towards post-fossil mobility places high demands on political considerations, future traffic planning technology. Investment and future growth plans may also serve as incentives for the economy and labour market. Post-fossil mobility will have to contend with a lower level of traffic yet the interactive options at hand will not cause any loss in quality.
