They are drivers of and framework conditions for urban transformation processes and shape cultural and social diversity. In view of this, the question arises of how migration is negotiated locally and how cities deal with immigration. This synthesis paper summarizes the overarching findings of those projects within the flagship initiative City of the Future of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) that work at the interface between urban and migration research. Starting from the neighbourhood as the main object of observation, this leads to policy recommendations and recommendations for action. Thus, the aim of the paper is to bundle central results with practical relevance for action for the specialist public. It is primarily aimed at political decision-makers at federal, state and local level as well as actors from practice who are involved in local negotiation and decision-making processes in different ways, in particular at housing companies, social organizations and migrant organizations. The paper was created as part of the networking of the projects on the focus topic social cohesion and migration.Internationale Migrations- und Fluchtbewegungen verändern Gesellschaft, Städte und Regionen. Sie sind Treiber von und Rahmenbedingung für urbane Transformationsprozesse und prägen die kulturelle und soziale Vielfalt. In Anbetracht dessen stellt sich die Frage, wie Migration lokal verhandelt wird und wie Städte mit Einwanderung umgehen. Dieses Synthesepapier fasst übergreifende Befunde derjenigen Projekte innerhalb der BMBF-Zukunftsstadtforschung zusammen, die an der Schnittstelle von Stadt- und Migrationsforschung arbeiten. Ausgehend vom Wohnquartier als Betrachtungsgegenstand werden Politik- und Handlungsempfehlungen für verschiedene Ebenen formuliert. Ziel des Papiers ist es dementsprechend, zentrale Ergebnisse mit praktischer Handlungsrelevanz für die Fachöffentlichkeit zu bündeln. Es richtet sich in erster Linie an politische Entscheidungsträger*innen auf Bundes-, Länder- und Kommunalebene sowie an Akteure aus der Praxis, die auf unterschiedliche Weise in lokale Aushandlungs- und Entscheidungsprozesse eingebunden sind, insbesondere an Wohnungsunternehmen, soziale Träger und Migranten*innenselbstorganisationen.
