2019-02-112023-02-042020-01-062023-02-042020-01-0620182567-1405https://repository.difu.de/handle/difu/254545Der Aufsatz will eingangs kurz einige wesentliche Herausforderungen und Probleme benennen, die die Anwendung von Pfadtheorien für die stadtgeschichtliche Forschung erschweren, sowie einige zentrale Elemente bzw. Begriffe dieser Theorie benennen. Aus dieser Bestandsaufnahme wird die grundlegende Arbeitshypothese abgeleitet, wegen der disziplinären und begrifflichen Unübersichtlichkeit der Debatte die Konzepte der Pfadabhängigkeit einerseits und der Entwicklungspfade andererseits analytisch zu unterscheiden und sie jeweils gezielt auf konkret umrissene Untersuchungsgegenstände zu beziehen. Anschließend wird die Fruchtbarkeit beider Konzepte für stadtgeschichtliche Analysen anhand der Untersuchung eines Pfadwechsels in der Wasserinfrastruktur der bi-kulturell gespaltenen Stadt Straßburg nach 1871 sowie anhand von Forschungsarbeiten zu Entwicklungspfaden europäischer Industriestädte im 20. Jahrhundert geprüft.The article discusses the challenges and potential of the two concepts of path-dependency and trajectories for the study of urban history. It states that in contrast to other social sciences these approaches have not been extensively used in urban studies and argues that the strong theoretical ambition and the vocabulary of the concepts might be reasons for this situation. Next, it claims that a clear differentiation between the two approaches of path-dependency and trajectories and an explicit reference to clear-cut empirical objects are of essential importance for the use of these concepts in urban history.
